Ramya, a popular South Indian actress in the 2000s, has paired with Dhanush in 'Polladhavan' and Simbu in 'Kuthu'. She forayed into politics after she joined Indian National Congress in 2012. Ramya has also served as the Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Mandya, Karnataka.
Meanwhile, Ramya was the first guest on Weekend with Ramesh Season 5. The former politician opened up about when she was going through a difficult time and how the INC leader Rahul Gandhi helped her back then. She revealed that she had contemplated suicide after her father RT Narayan’s demise.
Ramya said, "Two weeks after I lost my father, I was in Parliament. I didn’t know anyone or anything, even about the proceedings of Parliament. My mother is the biggest influence in my life, next is my father and third is Rahul Gandhi. When I lost my father, I had hit rock bottom. I did contemplate ending my life. I had also lost the election. It was a period of grief. During that time, Rahul Gandhi helped me and supported me emotionally too.”
The actress was last seen on the big screen in the 2016 Kannada film, Nagarahavu. She is now said to have stepped down from politics. As per the reports, the actress returned to the film industry with her own production company after seven years of sabbatical.
