There has been this fake news circulating on WhatsApp that the government is going to drop money from helicopters in every town to help people tide over the economic crisis. The government's PIB has on Thursday scorched the fake news by saying that no such thing is going to happen.

A lot of misconceptions surround the term "helicopter money", which Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao recently used during a presser. When he used that term, KCR clearly explained it as a form of Quantitative Easing or the printing of currency by the RBI. 'Helicopter money' is used to conjure up the image that money will be showered on the economy. It's a figurative term and shouldn't be taken literally.

More recently, a Kannada-language channel suggested through scrolling news that money would be showed into towns from helicopters.

As per KCR, the economy needs Rs 10.16 lakh crore to be printed by the RBI to give a boost. This will spruce up consumption demand and revive the economy. It won't be inflationary in the current circumstances, say experts.
