A huge fake mobile handset racket has been busted in Gujarat's Vadodara. A manufacturer of expensive duplicate phones has been arrested. The culprit is learned to have made fake iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy phones costing more than Rs. 50,000 each and sold them online.

In the racket that was most recently busted successfully under the Copyright Act, duplicate phones worth Rs. 24 lakhs were seized.

Those who order phones online are advised to use due diligence in the wake of reports about fake mobile handsets coming to light. E-commerce is hard to be regulated and it's used by manufacturers from across India to sell counterfeit goods, especially costly electronic products. The authenticity of a mobile phone can be checked by looking up the IMEI number by dialing *#06# on your mobile.
