The Election Commission and social media giant Facebook have partnered together to encourage all those of voting age to register so that they could vote. The innovative approach was announced by Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Jyoti on Monday.

Pertaining to this, Facebook will remind all those turning 18 from now to December 31 encouraging them to register themselves as a voter along with the usual birthday wish that Facebook sends. The reminder will be sent in English in addition to other regional languages such as Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali, Urdu, Assamese, Marathi and Oriya as well.

The reminder will also have a ‘Register Now’ button that will take the users directly to the National Voters Services portal once upon clicking it. Regarding this, Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar stated that this approach will help with the dissemination of information to the young digital community of India.
