Rakesh, a 25-year-old man who is a painter by profession, had been in a relationship with Shannu, a 30-year-old mother of two. The woman's husband had deserted her many years ago. Rakesh struck a friendship with the deserted woman and they reportedly had an affair for a long time.

Recently, when the woman's father was out, Rakesh went to her home in Hyderabad's Boduppal and told her that she should marry him. Shannu refused, saying that she is a mother of two and can't marry him. An argument followed. Out of fury for declining his proposal, what Rakesh did is unspeakable and unthinkable.

He poured kerosene on the woman and set her on fire. When Shannu screamed for help, he fled the place. Her neighbours tried to rescue her by taking to a nearby hospital, where the victim succumbed to severe burns.

Eventually, the perpetrator of the ghastly violence was traced in Uttar Pradesh. He has confessed to committing the crime.
