Expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been pronounced guilty by a Delhi court of kidnapping and raping a young girl, then a minor, from Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district two years ago.
While co-accused Shashi Singh has been acquitted of all charges, the quantum of punishment for the former MLA will be sentenced on Thursday, with the maximum possible punishment being life imprisonment. "Sengar was a powerful person, the victim was a village girl, not from a cosmopolitan educated area which led to delay in filing case. I found her statement truthful, unblemished that she was sexually assaulted and under threat," the court reportedly said.
Sengar has been convicted under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 5(c) and 6 of Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), according to a news agency.
