No, 'Fanaa' is not a typical 'girl-boy-falling-in-love-in-Kashmir' story. It is DIFFERENT, howsoever cliched it may sound and this statement comes as fact after watching the film's first ever promo.

While our promo review would be coming to you soon, have a look at the EXCLUSIVE FIRST DIALOGUE from the movie. Mouthed by Kajol, it goes as:

"Tere Dil Mein Meri Saanson Ko Panaah Mil Jaaye, Tere Ishq Mein Meri Jaan Fanaa Ho Jaaye"

FANAA means to "to destroy oneself, to wipe out one's identity completely".
