Congress president Rahul Gandhi has stated sarcastically that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in (Narendra) Modi’s India seemed to possess a ‘mysterious power’ especially at the time of polling.
Assembly polls in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram, held during the past three weeks, have now reached the climax as the counting of votes would be taken up on Tuesday (11th December). Telangana and Rajasthan voted on Friday to complete the poll process which would determine in these States the fate and political future of the BJP and the Congress besides ruling parties such as TDP and TRS for the next five years.
Tweeting yesterday after a no-holds-barred election campaign in these States, Rahul Gandhi urged his partymen to be vigilant and carry out ‘checks’ soon after the polling is completed. “I hear that EVMs behaved ‘oddly’ and ‘mysteriously’ after the poll process was over in Madhya Pradesh. Many EVMs kept in a school van were abducted and distorted. It seems EVMs in Modi’s India possess ‘mysterious’ power. It is good for Congress cadres and workers to remain alert at all times,” Rahul tweeted.
It may be noted that Congress leaders from various States had been accusing the Election Commission of India for remaining inactive to their complaints of ‘willful’ functioning of EVMs where in certain places, the EVMs registered votes in favour of ‘Lotus’ (the BJP’s symbol) irrespective of the option chosen by voters.
