One of the most popular on going Tamil serials is undoubtedly 'Ethirneechal' aired on Sun TV. The daily soap gained popularity due to the brash character Aadhi Gunasekaran played by late director turned actor G Marimuthu. After he passed away suddenly due to a heart attack questions were raised as to who would replace him in the serial.
There were reports that attempts were made to cast another actor as Aadhi Gunasekharan and names such as Vela Ramamurthy, Ilavarasu and Azhagar Perumal were discussed.
However veteran director Thiruchelvam has given a new twist to the serial. In the recent episode he has shot scenes in which Aadhi Gunasekaran goes missing writing a letter. So now there is no need for the character to physically appear in the serial. As his brothers have started looking for him this search could last for a few more months.
But at the same time, there are reports that Thiruchelvam is planning to write in a new character as Aadhi Gunasekharan's long lost elder brother entering the household. Effectively the elder brother character will now behave in a similar manner as Gunasekharan without the need for replacing the character so memorably played by Marimuthu. It will also remain a tribute to him as well.
