Babu debuted as hero in the movie 'Ennuyir Thozhan' (1990) directed by Bharathiraja. His acting as a slum dwelling political party worker was so authentic that the very next day after the film released Babu reportedly signed around ten films as hero.

At this stage, he was acting in the film 'Manasara Vazhthungalen' . During a fight scene he ignored the advice of the stunt master to use a dupe and he himself jumped from a great height. Unfortunately he broke his spinal bones as he missed the protective bedding.

Babu who had the potential to become a leading hero in Tamil cinema after that became immovable and spent close to three decades in a mostly bedridden state. Babu, after battling his fate for so long finally found relief in death on September 19th this year.

In this situation, 3 weeks after Babu's death, his mother Prema also breathed her last on October 11th. Prema a sister of former Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker K. Rajaram was taking care of her son all these years and was heartbroken after her son passed away. Sources say that she refused to intake food in her utter grief and has also hopefully reunited with her son somewhere up there.
