If response over the social networking world, other forums and word of mouth are indication, the First Look of 'English Vinglish' hasn't quite worked. Audience is clearly divided and the kind of excitement that audience carried has indeed been dampened.

An actor says on condition of anonymity, "Let me be brutally honest here. The idea is good but then it is way too pretentious. Also, an attempt to create humour with Sridevi misreading 'Censor Board' as 'Censor Bored' and then mispronouncing certain other words is hardly funny. Worse, it seemed like the longest 100 seconds I have ever stared on the screen."

On the other hand a marketing guru says in defence of the teaser, "The very fact that even today's generation, which hasn't seen Sridevi on the big screen, is talking about her means the teaser has worked. Filmmaker Balki's idea must have been to create awareness and he has succeeded."

Well, though there are definitely diverse points of views here, hopefully the film by itself has enough humour and entertaining elements in it to invoke a much better response.
