On Day 4 of the second Test against England, the Indian team made a spectacular comeback with a 317-run win to level series 1 - 1. The initial century from Rohit Sharma, an all-round performance from Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel's first five-wicket haul and Virat Kohli's flawless 62 off 149 were among the major contributions towards stopping England from crossing 200 in either of their innings.
Ashwin clearly emerged to be the star of the game with his fifth Test century and a five-wicket haul in the same match. His 96-run partnership with Virat Kohli helped the team build a strong lead for the second innings. Meanwhile, a bizarre DRS review opted by Joe Root and his team against Ashwin right before the lunch break caught the eyes of audience, who brutally trolled England for their needless mistake. Ashwin faced a full-length delivery from part-time spinner Dan Lawrence in the 48th over, and the ball slid down leg side before being caught by wicketkeeper Ben Foakes. Joe Root decided to review the umpire's decision upon Lawrence's appeal and the replays showed a huge gap between the bat and the ball as it went past Ashwin. Reacting to England's decision, Australian cricketer Shane Warne wrote, Was that review in the grand final of worst reviews ever?
Several other social media users mocked the major blunder caused due to a moment of desperation. Desperate review there from England. India have played really well but i hope the pitch at The Motera offers a bit more for the team that loses the toss than this one. #INDvsENG, a user wrote. Its an insult to #DRS. England should be sacked of all their reviews for the rest of the game.. another user wrote.
