Endukante.. is heart-touching & entertaining : Ram

  • IndiaGlitz, [Monday,May 14 2012]

Ram is back with a brand new love story. Endukante Premanta's trailers do look interesting. The film is unlike Karunakaran's previous films. There is action, besides his style of romance and, in Ram’s words, heart-touching elements.

As the film readies for a theatrical release on June 1, Ram talks about what makes the film special, his preferences and more, in this exclusive chat with IndiaGlitz.

On Endukante Premanta:

Karunakaran occupies a special place in the industry for his ability to make entertaining and heart-touching love stories. He lives up to his image in Endukante Premanta too. The film has a feel-good buzz all through. It mirrors the mindset of today's youngsters. The character I play thinks like today's youngsters, he is self-centred. But when he falls in love, he is all for the girl, ready to do anything. To what extent he goes for the sake of his girl, it is suspense for now.

This is something which I have not done earlier. The story is definitely not regular. The story was spun from an exciting plot, which makes the film more interesting. The novelty translates into every scene. The film is very different.

For a love story, it is important that the pairing has to be attractive for the audience. As they watch them, the audience must say, Wow! It seems theirs is an interesting love story. Our pairing (himself and Tamanna Bhatia) looks very cute. It is the coolest release this summer.

Karunakaran is King of Montages:

He is the best director in our industry when it comes to making cute love stories. As I said, he intertwines feel-goodness and pleasing elements at once. Given his dexterity to make a film with beautiful montages, our cinematographer, Andrew, could shoot the film even better. The songs were shot in Switzerland and France. Not only these but also a song shot in Hyderabad looks great, as if it was shot in a foreign country.

The trailers have got good response. The film is looking 10 times better. The director has infused many heart-tugging scenes.

On GV Prakash’s music:

GV Prakash was my senior at school. We both went to school in Chennai. He comes with a good record. He has worked with Karunakaran in the past and this helped. He has come out with a youthful, energetic and vibrant music. Personally, I like his rerecording wok a lot. One needs to possess lot of maturity to give such rerecording. He raises the appeal of a scene through his work.

All the songs have been received well. I like the theme music.

On working with Tamanna:

Ever since Ready released, many have told me that I and Tamanna would make a good pairing. (Tamanna played a cameo in that film). Our pairing does look great in Endukante.. Our pairing has been applauded. As for her work, Tamanna is a talented performer. She is committed and a hard-working actress.

On comedy in the film:

Endukante.. does not have a separate comedy track. There are many comedians, like Brahmanandam garu, but 90% of the comedy scenes involve the hero and heroine. Comedy is borne out of the story.

What makes the film special:

The fact that Endukante.. intertwines an exciting plot with a love story makes it special. It is the USP of the movie. Besides our pairing, the music and photography, the film boasts of other good making values. It is the most expensive film in my career. The film is visually appealing.

On going for bi-lingual:

I have always wanted to go Tamil but waited for the right opportunity. Karunakaran too has been thinking of doing a Tamil film. Our interests merged and Pedda Nanna (Ravikishore) was willing to make a bi-lingual. Budget was never a constraint. My market may have improved after Kandireega, and so also Karunakaran's over the years, but still the budget exceeds our market value. These days, producers are proposal-makers and businessmen. He is unlike them. I would not have preferred to go for a bi-lingual if the producer was someone else. He never thinks about market; he spends on the basis of the script.

We have shot every scene twice. Endukante.. is a proper bi-lingual. For a bi-lingual to be made possible, the lead cast, the director and the producer have to be committed. Otherwise, it will be a compromise.

On his story-selection:

Frankly speaking, there is limited scope for making different films in Telugu. After Ready, I listened to some 100 stories on the same lines. Kandireega too was a typical commercial film. The reason why I am taking time to make films is that I do not want to be stereotyped. Ganesh was a soft love story for kids. Rama Rama Krishna Krishna and Kandireega was targeted at a larger audience. Endukante Premanta is class apart.

On multi-starrers:

As I already noted in my previous interview to IndiaGlitz, there is a dearth of stories for single-hero films nowadays. If I find a bound script, I am game to do a multi-starrer.

No sequel to Kandireega:

Kandireega is not a sequel. The film is going to be completely different. Some characters may see a repetition, but the film is not a sequel.

Open to new looks:

I am open to trying new things. I did try to don some new looks. At the same time, I am cautious. I take care to not look over-the-top. It is wrong to wear a new look for the sake of trying something different. It can't be done without regard for the script.
