The Tamil film fraternity and movie buffs are yet to come out of the shock caused by the sudden demise of National award winning lyricist Na.Muthukumar, Now another lyricist Annamalai (49)n has passed away at a young age due to a massive heart attack on Tuesday (September 27) night.
Annamalai has completed M.Phil (Tamil Literature) and worked as a journalist in a leading Tamil weekly. He entered the film industry as a lyricist with the film 'Kummalam' that released in 2003. In the film he wrote three super hit songs. He went on to write songs in many films of the previous decade.
Music director Vijay Antony paved way for an important turning point in Annamalai's career as a lyricist. Vijay Antony made sure that Annamalai writes at least one song in all of his films and their association delivered chartbuster songs in the two super hit Vijay starrers 'Vettaikaran' and 'Velayudham'.
Annamalai has penned 100s of songs. Most memorable among them are, 'Banaras Pattukatti' (NInaithaley Inikkum), 'En ucchi Madaila Surrungudhu' and 'Oru Chinna Thamarai' ('Vettaikkaran), 'Rathathin Rathame' and 'Chillax' (Velayudham), 'Ulaginil Miga Uyaram' (Naan), 'Annayin Karuvil' (Haridas), 'Idicha Paccharisi' (Uthama Puthiran), 'Kaththi Parvakkari' (Aranmanai) and 'Pottadhu Pathala Mappula' (Saguni).
Annamalai is survived by wife and daughter.
