Embargo on Vijay's films

The problems for Vijay due to the late release and the failure of Aathi is continuing.

It maybe recalled that the theatre owners had requested the producer of Aathi and Vijay's father S A Chandrasekharan to compensate the losses of Aathi. As there was no response to their request, the Tamilnadu Exhibitors Association on Wednesday passed a resolution stating that they would not screen any movies starring Vijay in future until they are compensated for the losses.

Speaking after the executive council meeting of the exhibitors association, its president Annamalai, said, 'we paid huge sums as MG (Minimum Guarantee) to screen Aathi. Unfortunately the producer failed to get the movie released on Pongal day. It resulted in huge losses for us. A total of 140 theatres in Tamilnadu suffered losses between Rs three and Rs five lakh respectively. Efforts to have them compensated by the producer failed miserably. It is the fault of the producer which resulted in its delay. Hence we have decided to stop screening any more Vijay films in Tamilnadu in all the 1800 theatres until the compensation for the opening day's loss are settled'.
