Elon Musk, the founder of Twitter, showed off a new logo for the company—it's a "minimalist art deco" X—and confirmed that its use was part of a branding effort. Mr. Musk said his design had simply "a lot more room to grow" but cautioned against hasty characterizations.
Musk had solicited design input from his massive following of 149 million users, and it seems he settled on a logo he’d previously hinted at—through a flickering video on his Twitter feed.
The "X" logo holds particular sentiment for Musk, as he said it represents his vision of an "everything app" that he promised to launch in the future. This grandiose concept harks back to WeChat, a versatile Chinese app that serves different functionalities through messaging, booking taxis, and paying bills.
Musk imagined X as an artificial intelligence-powered platform centered around audio, video, messaging, and payment and banking services. He saw Twitter as a way of realizing this grand vision. And he believed that Twitter’s potential could be transformed into something extraordinary, paralleling WeChat's success In China.
The official Twitter app still features its bluebird logo at present, but the platform's account has already changed over to featuring a new X logo, implying some exciting changes and possibilities ahead for Twitter users.
