A California judge has approved a request by Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s 18-year-old daughter to change her name and gender on her birth certificate. Vivian Jenna Wilson, formerly known as Xavier Alexander, filed the petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court the day after turning 18 in April.

Vivian Jenna Wilson legally altered her last name as well to her mother Justine Wilson’s maiden name after cutting all ties with her father Elon Musk. “Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form,” Vivian Jenna said, as per court records.

Her mother Justine Wilson is a Canadian author and was married to Elon Musk from 2000 to 2008. Sharing a conversation she had with her daughter regarding the matter, Justine wrote on Twitter, “I had a weird childhood, my 18-year-old said to me. I can’t believe I’m as normal-seeming as I am. I said, I’m very proud of you. I’m proud of myself.”

Elon Musk has been criticized multiple times in the past over his controversial remarks against transgender people. “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare,” he had said in December 2020.
