With a daring statement on Monday, tech tycoon Elon Musk grabbed headlines: if Apple included OpenAI into its operating system, he would forbid the usage of Apple goods at his businesses.
Concerned about possible security hazards, Musk, the owner of X and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, said, “That is an unacceptable security violation.” Further announcing stringent restrictions, he said that guests would have to turn in their Apple devices and keep them in a Faraday cage.
Musk’s position was reacted to by Apple’s announcement of several AI capabilities and its partnership with OpenAI to include ChatGPT technology into its products. Apple reaffirmed its dedication to privacy, telling consumers that AI would give on-device processing first priority with less cloud participation.
Musk criticized Apple for their action, saying, “It’s patently absurd that Apple isn’t smart enough to make their own AI.” This attitude is consistent with Musk’s earlier legal efforts against his co-founded OpenAI, which accused them of straying from their initial charitable objectives.
Musk instituted xAI as a competitive bid to take on OpenAI and create a ChatGPT substitute. Musk’s will to make a big impression in the AI space was evident in the startup’s valuation, which shot up to $24 billion after a profitable $6 billion series B investment round.
