Twitter is a leading social media platform used by people every day all over the world. Elon Musk, the renowned philanthropist and the founder of SpaceX & Tesla, bought the microblogging platform for $44 billion last November. Now, he has made a change to the logo of Twitter.
On Tuesday, the iconic bluebird logo of Twitter was replaced by the 'Shiba Inu' dog face on the web version. Users see the doge logo before the site loads. The dog's face gained popularity as doge memes on the internet. The Dogface is well known as the logo of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency. Mr Musk is a supporter of Dogecoin and so he has made this change.
The Dogecoin cryptocurrency was created in 2013 by some software engineers to make fun of the wild speculation in cryptocurrencies at the time. Dogecoin became popular among traders all over the world. Now, Dogecoin soared by nearly 30 per cent, according to a report by Bloomberg, after its picture suddenly appeared in the website interface.
Elon Musk posted two tweets with a humorous take on this new change. One of his tweets is a meme about Dogface being the new face of Twitter. In another tweet, Mr Musk shared a screenshot of an old conversation with a user who asked him to "buy Twitter and change the bird logo to a doge." He said in the tweet it's done "as promised".
