Rashmi Gautam has been fighting for animal rights from time to time. She is a pet lover and has worked for the well-being of stray dogs as well in the past.
Recently, a video clip in which an elephant is seen being used for a ritual related to the Ganapathi festival surfaced on the Internet. Sharing the clip, the TV personality commented that the elephant had undergone physical stress for sure. She retweeted someone remarking that elephants are trained for specific purposes and, in the process, they are made to go through isolation and starving.
"The pain and frustration of the elephant are clearly visible towards the end of the video. Requesting PMO, Maneka Gandhi, PETA India, PFA India and many other animal organizations to ban the use of animals for public entertainment," Rashmi wrote.
She argued with those who accused her of remembering animal welfare only when Hindu festivals are around. "I am a proud Hindu myself," Rashmi tweeted.
The issue of using elephants for ritualistic purposes has been highlighted by several animal rights activists from time to time.
