Heeding the request made by the new office bearers of Nadigar Sangam, Rajesh Lakhoni, the Chief Electoral Officer and the Principal Secretary to the Government has issued a notification permitting the stage drama performances in Tamil Nadu during the election period.
During the Lok Sabha Election held in 2014, the Election commission had banned all kind of stage dramas from the date of notification election till the date of result. This affected the stage drama artists who are the members of the Nadigar Sangam, as their livelihood depends on dramas and the summer months of April-May is considered as the season for dramas.
Hence a delegation of Nadigar Sangam lead by its vice President Ponvannan had met the Chief Electoral Officer a few weeks ago and requested him to allow the conduct of dramas during the election season.
Now the CEO Lakhoni has issued a order granting permission to the staging of dramas. In the order he has directed the District Electoral Officers to grant permission for the dramas on the basis of Merit. The organizers of the drama/theater play should obtain the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) from the DEO if the drama has anything political in nature.
