‘Elanjikkavu. P. O. was one small movie that came up with reasonable pre publicity and visibility it the Box Office, having made the promotions for the last few months. But when a debutante
tries to translate a workable idea in an amateurish movie making style, nothing works in favour, though the movie is soaked in good publicity. That is what that happens with ‘Elanjikkavu
P O, which may not be lucky enough to live for a few weeks in theatres.
The movie is all about how a highly-respected school teacher, jailed on charges of rape and murder, is saved by his beloved students finally exposing the real crime. Salim
Kumar is Sivaraman, serving sentence for allegedly murdering a girl . His former student Lekshmi (Nandini) who doesn't believe in the case, gets connected with her old school mates Charles
(Mukesh), a lawyer cum magician, and Rajendran (Riyaz Khan) to solve the mystery behind the crime.Added to that is the flashbacks of childhood romance between Lekshmi and Charles, and the
grown up romance between the two .Adding to the effort to increase the humour quotient is the arrival of Niya (Vaigha) all the way from the U S, who gets elected as the local panchayat
president and the attempts of a new tuition teacher (Suraj Vejaramoodu) to offer her classes to read and write Malayalam properly. The movie tries to put together elements of mystery,
melodrama and humour , but fails in bringing in every emotions listed to the needed effect. The writing is sloppy and the dialogues looking amateurish and tedious. Some of the attempts on
humour falls fast, but unexpected humour arrives in the disheartening handling of sequences and in the English of US-bred girl. Though the movie could boast of a workable story by Shinu B
Krishnan, the handling by director Sangeeth destroys beyond chances of revival and the insipid casting adds to its woes. From the spelling errors in the Thanks' cards to the ease with which
the lead man solves the case, everything here itself is hard to be believed. The climax is again centred on the reality staged show, adding to the lack of real life that is hardly displayed
all over.
The performances by all the senior actors in the fray , be it Mukesh, Nandini, Salim Kumar, Riyaz Khan or Shammi Thilakan is never an attempt for a mention. The child artists manage better than
them and appear relatively effective. The technical sides are mediocre at best.
'Elanjikkavu PO' ends up as a movie that may not be advised for an engaging watch on any fine counts.
