Representatives of Eelam Tamils living in London and other countries have urged Kollywood not to show the victims of genocide (in Sri Lanka) in a poor light in films/OTT content. In a letter to the Tamil Film Producers Council, the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, and the South Indian Artist Association, the representatives made a mention of 'The Family man 2', the Manoj Bajpayee-Samantha Akkineni web series.
"There is a falsification of the just struggle of Eelam Tamils against state oppression in 'Family Man 2'. We have already conveyed to Amazon Prime our objections against the same. Members of the Tamil diaspora have demonstrated in front of the Amazon Prime offices," they said.
The representatives suggested that the struggles of the Eelam Tamil people have been misrepresented. "The mention of words such as ‘Eelam Tamils’, ‘Point Pedro’, ‘Eelam’ and ‘North Sri Lanka’ as well as similarity of scenes to the last stages of the genocidal war in Sri Lanka and violent streaks exhibited by the characters clearly demonstrates the fabricated agenda to illustrate the Eelam Tamils as people prone to mindless violence," the letter says. The letter also took a strong exception to how Eelam women have been portrayed.
"A request has been made to the South Indian Artists Association, Directors Association, and the Producers Council not to produce or release this sort of films in the future," the letter says.
