Tamil Nadu chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting for early setting up of Cauvery Management Board.
The Legislative Assembly met yesterday after the fiscal budget for the ensuing financial year was presented by deputy chief-minister O. Panneerselvam who holds the Finance portfolio. Chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami tabled the Govt.’s motion in the Assembly requesting the Centre to set up a Cauvery Management Board within the time limit stipulated by the Supreme Court. The resolution was unanimously passed.
The chief-minister later penned a separate letter to the Prime Minister requesting for early setting up of the Cauvery Management Board. The letter also referred to the resolution passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in this regard. “Supreme Court passed a verdict on 16th February to set up a Cauvery Management Board within six weeks from the date of the verdict.
“Unfortunately, no action has thus far been taken by the Centre in setting up the Cauvery Management Board, which has caused agonies to Tamil farmers in particular and to Tamils in general. We expect the Prime Minister to react at once to resolve our plea and direct the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board in line with the apex Court’s directions,” Edapadi’s letter to the Prime Minister said thus.
