Enforcement Directorate (ED) has served a notice on Jammu & Kashmir’s separatist leader Yasin Malik to explain Rs.48 lakh FERA violation.

One lakh US dollars worth Rs.48.23 lakhs were recovered from Mushtaq Ahmed Dar and his wife Shammi, hailing from a separatist group, in 2001 in Srinagar.  During police interrogation, the couple had told the police that they had been given the case by a person hailing from Nepal who had instructed them to hand over the money to Yasin Malik.

Malik was arrested in connection with the case but was later let off on bail.  After interrogating the case for more than a decade-and-a-half, the ED officials have now served a notice to Malik to explain the sources of funds and to prove that he hadn’t violated the FERA Act.

The couple as well as Malik had been given 30 days to respond to the show-cause notice issued by the Enforcement Directorate.
