The Election Commission of India is to take up probably the final spell of interrogation of the concerned parties in the case relating to the allotment of the frozen ‘Two-Leaves’ symbol of the erstwhile AIADMK.

The EC has been interrogating the case for the past few months. On the last hearing held last Monday (16th October), the EC was baffled when jailbird Dinakaran’s counsel told that it (EC) could even consider freezing the ‘Two-leaves’ symbol permanently. However, the EC dismissed the idea after which jailbird Dinakaran’s counsel accused the EPS-OPS faction of submitting fake/forged documents while pressing its claim.

Counsel for EPS-OPS-led unified AIADMK said that jailbird Dinakaran, who wasn’t even a member of the party and was removed from all responsibilities in the past by the late chief-minister ‘Puratchithalaivi’ J. Jayalalithaa, didn’t deserve any right to lay his claim to get the party’s symbol, name and flag. While OPS-EPS group had Guru Krishnakumar, Vaidyanathan and Viswanathan as counsels, former politician Ashwini Kumar was jailbird Dinakaran’s counsel.

After hearing the arguments of the concerned sides, the EC postponed the next hearing to 23rd October (next Monday). During the hearing, the EC didn’t allow Dinakaran’s counsel Aswhini Kumar to delay his appearance at the Court. It remains to be seen whether the EC takes a final decision on the issue tomorrow.
