Delhi-NCR jolted by earthquake

A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitude on the richter scale hit the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan causing tremors to be felt in many places in North India including the Delhi-NCR region.  The epicentre was near the Afghanistan- Tajikistan border and occurred at a depth of around 190 kilometres.

No casualities have been reported so far though pictures of destroyed buildings have started appearing on the internet presumedly from Belah, Balochistan.  There was widespread panic in the Kashmir valley as well with people rushing out of buildings as the shaking began. A girder of an under construction flyover bridge was destroyed near  Aloochibagh in Srinagar.  Electricity was shut down in many regions as a precautionery measure but resumed once the air was clear.
