Bold attempts with realities surrounding plus innocence clubbing is not quite often seen on Kannada screen. Director of high caliber and well informed personality S Narayan makes an out and out different kind of cinema that is a bumper for the masses. In the days of modernity director S Narayan gets in to the villages for this film and made it look very real. There are some startling scenes, blood curdling end yet the narration pattern of director S Narayan and true love never winning on this earth - he holds a mirror. From this film Pankaj, son of director S Narayan has opened up liberally. He had a good freak out on the silver screen. It seems his Paapa has given him a free hand. It is a simple tale of the early days of the director itself. As a child Isha (Pankaj) is told by his mother that Pathi (Surabhi) is his wife. Pathi is maternal uncle daughter to Isha. This aspect innocently fed to Isha becomes very serious as he grows. He does not tolerate any pain bestowed on Pathi. The love that blossom at the budding age grows stronger and stronger. The maternal uncle of Isha takes it seriously and he wants to wipe out Isha from the scene. Isha is framed unnecessarily for one year imprisonment. The crooked uncle of Isha arrange for Pathi marriage in his absence. Pathi protests strongly but she is hapless without Isha. On the wedding night Pathi screaming at the top of voice forces the boy to get out. In a drunken stage the just married boy dies. Now Pathi get inside the prison and Isha comes out serving one year. The situation is uncontrollable for Isha. He takes an entry to prison and search for Pathi. The jailor assistant makes way for the young birds to fly away from the prison in the garbage vehicle. When the hunt begins it becomes tough for the pure lovers. Eventually they have to give up their life. Pankaj gets full marks for his stupendous job. He has understood the gravity of the role and put in hard work. It is a perfect film for his build, height and looks. This should have been his launch pad. Surabhi as debutant looks very neat and tidy for the role. The 25 plus new artists selected for this film scream a lot and sometimes dialogues do not reach the ears. S Narayan as a music director also gets equal marks what he scores for the story, screenplay, and direction. The songs on Prema..friendship.Jinke Mari.are wonderful from the pen of S Narayan. The lyrics are not lost in the music. They are clearly understandable. Some of the lines of S Narayan are haunting ones. This is a film that needs exterior locations for the shoot. Score - 7.5/10 |
