Dulquer Salmaan's maiden production venture 'Varane Avashyamund' written and directed by Anoop Sathyan, hit the screens in February this year. The movie was a huge success at the box-office and is now streaming on Netflix. But, ever since the movie started streaming on Netflix, the has been in trouble with one after the other controversy.
Days ago, a female journalist accused Dulquer Salmaan and the team for using her photograph in the picture without consent. In no time, actor Dulquer Salmaan issued an immediate apology to Kapoor, saying that it was not intentional.
The movie is now once again caught in a controversy. This time it involves a joke in the movie involving the name ‘Prabhakara'. There is a small scene in the film where the movie's lead actor Suresh Gopi's character calls his dog 'Prabhakara', a popular reference to a character played by actor Thilakan in the 1988 hit film 'Pattana Pravesham'.
However, the scene did not go well among the Tamil audience who wrongly interpreted it as a sarcastic reference to slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. Soon, social media was flooded with trolls attacking Dulquer's family. Responding to the allegations, Dulquer wrote that it was 'not intentional' and also clarified about the scene.
Dulquer Salmaan wrote," To all those who were offended. I apologise. And I also apologise on behalf of #VaraneAvashyamund and @DQsWayfarerFilm
In another tweet, he also shared the iconic clip from the 'Pattana Pravesham'.
After the apology post went viral, Tamila actor Prasanna replied to Dulquer's post and apologized to him on behalf of the Tamil audience and for the abuses he had to face. As a Tamil who's seen Malayalam movies I quiet understand the context, I sincerely apologize dear @dulQuer for the misunderstanding and all the unwarranted abuse. I see the name is used just like the line "ormayundo ee mukham" by Sureshgopi sir.
'Varane Avashyamund', starring Dulquer Salmaan, Shobana, Kalyani Priyadarshan, and Suresh Gopi in the lead, narrates the heart-warming tale of four individuals discovering love. This Anop Sathyan directorial marked the return of the hit pair Suresh Gopi and Shobana after a long hiatus.
To all those who were offended. I apologise. And I also apologise on behalf of #VaraneAvashyamund and @DQsWayfarerFilm ! This is the reference to the joke in question. The 1988 film “Pattana Pravesham”. pic.twitter.com/7fQrrJRU7u
