Dubai's Iconic Ferris Wheel, Ain Dubai, Faces Operational Challenges

Dubai’s Ain Dubai, the world’s biggest Ferris wheel, has stopped turning a few months after its grand opening two years ago. Situated on the man-made island of Bluewaters, whose landscaped waterways have become one of the UAE city’s most gorgeous features, the attraction stands in what was once its lovely setting. For unexplained reasons, it now lies languidly amid its once lovely setting.

The attraction remains closed indefinitely, and the employees at surrounding restaurants and shops seem doubtful if it will ever open again. No official explanation was given, and rumours popped up about potential technical issues as well as safety concerns.

The Dubai Eye, being approximately two and a half times the height of London’s Eye at 250 meters, is almost twice as tall as it. Indeed, with around 1,750 passengers on one single ride, it becomes the largest of its kind globally.

The closure of the Ferris wheel has left tourists and locals confused, considering Dubai is famed for having several record-breaking landmarks like the Dubai Frame as well as the Burj Khalifa.

Experts say an official silence on the issue shows a complex problem with no easy solution. Ain Dubai’s fate remains in doubt as speculation swirls, leaving its impressive structure as a sheer spectacle of lights for now.
