It was a month ago, producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak's Panorama Studios International acquired the Hindi remake rights of the Malayalam hit 'Drishyam 2 - The Resumption', helmed by Jeethu Joseph. The announcement was made through their official social media handles. Kumar Mangat Pathak from Panorama Studio International shared, "With the huge success of Drishyam 2, the story needs to be told with passion and commitment, and we as Producers are committed to that."
Ever since the announcement was made, there were speculations doing the round Jeethu Joseph himself will be directing the Hindi version too as the director who helmed the Hindi prequel Nishikant Kamat is no more. Now Jeethu himself has clarified on the same. In an interview with TOI, the director dismissed the speculations as mere rumours and said that he will not be directing it.
Starring Mohanlal, Meena, Esther, and Ansiba Hassan in the lead roles, 'Drishyam 2' earned acclaim upon its release on Amazon Prime Video in February this year. The film is a sequel to the 2013 hit crime drama 'Drishyam', directed by Jeethu Joseph. After its success in Malayalam, Drishyam was remade in a record number of languages, including Hindi.
Its 2015 Hindi adaptation, also backed by Pathak, was led by Ajay Devgn portraying Mohanlal's role and Tabu playing the Inspector General of Police. Directed by late Nishikant Kamat, the remake was a massive hit. "The story of 'Drishyam 2' resonated with people and I am so glad that Panorama Studios will make it reach a wider audience with the Hindi remake. I am looking forward to it," Jeethu Joseph said in a statement.
After the success of Drishyam 2 - The Resumption, the Telugu remake rights were sold at a whopping price. Meena, Kruthika Jayakumar, Esther Anil, and Nadiya are reprising their respective roles from the first part of Telugu Drishyam. However, unlike the first iteration in Telugu, the franchise creator Jeethu Joseph himself directed the second one. The shoot of the movie had also wrapped up before the second lockdown.
