The CEO of Punjab National Bank Sunil Mehta talking in a press conference earlier this month referred to the bank’s 2 billion dollar scam to be a ‘cancer’. “. . This cancer, that’s been going on since 2011, we have brought it out and resolving it,” he said.
Well, seems like globally acclaimed legendary cancer specialist Dr.V.Shanta is not at all impressed by Mehta’s choice of words. Admonishing him for the same, the Padma Vibhushan awardee issued a statement condemning the comparison between cancer in relation with the recent banking scam.
“Thousands of patients with cancer cross the portals of our hospital every year; we are proud and happy to say that many of them are leading productive lives today. We do not want the word ‘cancer’ to be associated with guilt, hopelessness or dread. And definitely not with shame. So do not try to find parallels where none exists. Do not mix cancer with corruption. Ever,” Shanta stated.
Shanta who is a Chairperson at the Cancer Institute of Chennai also demanded the removal of the ‘cancer’ reference by the bank and appealed to the masses also to follow the same.
