In a major decision against the heinous practice of dowry, the Vasundhara Raje Scindia-led BJP Government in Rajasthan has decided to remove from service State Govt. staff who had taken dowry during their marriage.
All the staff members have been asked to furnish an affidavit in this regard. If the details furnished in the affidavit are found to be contrary to the truth, the staff members would be dismissed from service, it has been officially informed. It is part of the many administrative reforms undertaken by the Raje-led BJP Government.
In a recent order, the Govt. has asked members of the Govt. staff who had joined duty during the past five years in various capacities and in various Departments to furnish an affidavit clearly stating whether or not they took dowry from the brides’ families during their marriage. They should state their date of joining, place of work, marital status, etc. besides stating whether they took dowry or not.
The affidavit would have to be counter-signed by the parents, spouse and parents of the spouse of the employee concerned. In future, the employee would be sacked if it is found at any stage that they had taken dowry or cases are filed against them by the family of the spouse.
