External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday made it clear that she will not be contesting in the 2019 elections due to health issues. Many have come to the conclusion that she will be quitting politics. The fact is that the senior BJPian is not retiring from politics.
"I am not retiring from politics. It is just that I am not contesting the next Lok Sabha election due to my health issues," Swaraj has clarified.
On their part, some Congress leaders and functionaries have opined that Swaraj doesn't want to contest elections because she fears defeat. "She has read the writing on the wall in Madhya Pradesh," P Chidambaram, the former Union Minister, said.
Be that as it may, Swaraj could well become a Minister, once again, if NDA retains power in 2019. She has the Rajya Sabha route open.
