Dongri Ka Raja Review
Expectations
On one side our film-makers are trying to make films which can cater to even international audience, there are several film-makers who are still making films which are made only for small towns and villages. While most of these films have sex and violence as its key ingredients, there are few who try to induce a theme and some relatively known actors associated with it.
'Dongri Ka Raja' is one such film which has violence as its backdrop, new lead actors and some known character actors like Ronit Roy, Ashmit Patel and Kamlesh Sawant. There is not much expectations related to this movie as there is no buzz for the film, except for Sunny Leone's item song.
Story
'Dongri Ka Raja' is a story of a underworld don Mansoor Ali (Ronit Roy) and his sharp shooter Raja (Gashmeer Mahajani). Raja keeps killing Mansoor's rivals and opponents due to which police inspector Sidhant (Ashmit Patel) wants to catch them. On the other end Raja falls in love with Shruti (Reecha Sinha). Raja wants to marry Shruti due to which he faces opposition from Mansoor Ali as well as Inspector Sidhant.
The 'Glitz' Factor
The story might not have anything new to offer but at the same time has some good moments incorporated in the film. Kamlesh Sawant's track is enjoyable along with the superb twist in the middle portion of the film. The cinematography is good and presents the movie decently. The romantic song is decent.
The 'Non-Glitz' Factor
The movie reminds you of all those flop crime based films of Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and others from the 90's era. There are few scenes which are dragged to the fullest. One can find the same theme or dramatic moments presented on a repetitive mode. Several tracks are left half baked, especially the track of Ronit Roy.
Speaking about the music, there is an item song featuring Sunny Leone with obscure wordings such as 'Meri yeh choli, blockbuster lage' and so on.
The director tries to narrate a tale which has its settings based in the 90's era and despite of that he presents it in today's time. The whole set-up looks fake and irrelevant. He tries to focus more on the love saga and fails to enhance the other characters.
Gashmeet Mahajani tries hard to do justice to his strong character in the film. Due to lack of experience he fails to deliver something new nor is he able to establish the connecting factor. Reecha Sinha overacts in most of the scenes and lacks the heroine factor. Ashmit Patel hams to the fullest and keeps ramp walking wearing police uniform in most of the scenes. Ronit Roy is menacing and should have been explored more in the film. His character vanishes as the movie reaches its finale. Ashwini Kalsekar is wasted.
Final 'Glitz'
'Dongri Ka Raja' claims to give you a king size entertainment and delivers none. Due to which it ends up being a royal misfit.
