Pawan Kalyan has said that placing demands on film actors in times of distress is not right. At a time when film stars have been trolled for not donating big amounts during the pandemic, the Jana Sena chief opined that film industry people have their own share of problems.
"If a film makes Rs 1 Cr, at most, Rs 58 lakh is what is shared among the stakeholders. The rest of it all goes up in the form of taxes. During elections, each MLA and MP candidate (of major parties) spends hundreds of crores. Why can't they open their purse strings and donate, say, Rs 50 Cr at a time like this when economic distress is widespread? Contractors, etc. have got thousands of crores with them. Why are demands not placed on them for donations?" the 'Vakeel Saab' actor asked, turning into people's 'vakeel saab'.
He appreciated Akshay Kumar for donating Rs 25 Cr to the PM-CARES (in March) in the time of the pandemic. "I donated Rs 1 Cr. To each his own. It's up to an actor to donate how much he or she wants," the actor-politician added.
