DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin would be heading the party’s protest today (Tuesday) in Chennai demanding urgent action by the AIADMK-led State Govt. to trace and locate the whereabouts of hundreds of fishermen who have been missing in the aftermath of ‘Cyclone Ockhi’.
More than 600 fishermen have been missing in Kanniyakumari District alone after it was ravaged by Cyclone Ockhi when the fishermen were caught unawares by the cyclone which hit the coast two weeks back, uprooting trees, electric poles and causing heavy rains and flooding. Family members and friends of missing fishermen have been on a relay protest at the District.
It has been announced by the DMK that party’s working president Stalin would be heading the protest, to be held in front of the Chennai Collectorate, by party cadres demanding urgent action by the State to trace and locate missing fishermen and to look for survivors on an emergency basis.
“DMK would be protesting tomorrow demanding that Kanniyakumar District be declared as ‘calamity-hit District’. The party would be protesting with the additional demand that additional funds for relief and rehabilitation of cyclone victims be allocated at once and that the civil structure which has been damaged throughout the District be restored,” Stalin’s statement said.
