Avenue Supermart founder Radhakishan Damani, who is better known as the DMart man, has become the second richest Indian by trumping Shiv Nadar, Uday Kotak, Gautam Adani, and Lakshmi Mittal.
His total wealth is estimated to be $17.9 billion, which is far behind Reliance Industries Ltd. chairman Mukesh Ambani's $57.9 billion. If Ambani is the richest Indian (in fact, the richest Asian), Damani is at a distant second.
Commenting on the development, columnist R Jagannathan writes in Swarajya, "At a market valuation of Rs 155,546 crore, D Mart is three times the value of other listed retail chains (Trent, Aditya Birla Fashions and Future Retail) put together."
As per Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires Index, here is the total wealth of the other toppers.
No. 3 richest: HCL’s Shiv Nadar: $16.5 billion
No. 4 richest: Uday Kotak: $14.9 billion
No. 5 richest: Gautam Adani: $14.1 billion
No. 6 richest: Lakshmi Mittal $12.1 billion
