The long drawn battle over the repayment of losses suffered by the distributors and theatre owners by screening Superstar Rajinikanth starrer Lingaa' is finally coming to an end.
Though Rajini came forward to compensate the losses suffered by the stakeholders of his film on moral grounds several months ago Distributors and theatre owners who alleged foul play and said they are yet to receive the compensation they were promised. Some of them tried to stall the release of Vishal starrer Paayum Puli' the film produced by Vendhar Movies the same banner which acquired the Tamil Nadu distribution rights of Lingaa'.
In a closed-door meeting held yesterday in which the Tamil Film Producers Council members including its President and producer Kalaipuli.S.Thanu, S.Madhan of Vendhar Movies banner and also the prominent distributors and Theatre owners participated. In that meeting, an amicable solution seems to have evolved as per sources close to Indiaglitz.
The source which had access to what has transpired in the meeting shared the following piece of information with Indiaglitz:
The total amount payable as compensation to distributors and theatre owners who had screened Lingaa' was Rs.12 crores. The Superstar accepted to share the 50%t of the total amount that is Rs.6 crores. The film's producer Rockline Venkatesh had to take care of the remaining amount but he could give only Rs.4.5 crores and this was the issue that stalled the settlement to distributors and theatre owners.
Now a prominent distributor Tiruppur Subramanian seems to have volunteered to contribute the remaining amount of Rs.1.5 crores payable to distributors and theatre owners. Hence all the controversies surrounding Lingaa' can be expected to end very soon.
Tiruppur Subramanian is a distributor who has screened many Rajinikanth films in the past and he has done this as a token of gratitude to the Superstar.
We will however, wait for an official confirmation from Tiruppur Subramanian regarding this devel
