Big films can some times bring big losses. Big losses in turn lead to controversies. And if a controversy involves a big star, it's a big issue. Something of this sort is unfolding.
Sampath Kumar of Tollywood Creations had bought the theatrical rights of 'Sardaar Gabbar Singh' for a whopping Rs. 4.38 Cr, for Krishna district. With the film sinking without leaving a trace, he made a huge loss of about Rs. 2 Cr.
"After the disastrous performance, Pawan Kalyan garu decided to do a film for the same producer. Some of us who incurred huge losses were promised to be sold the rights of 'Katamarayudu' to make good the loss. However, I am not being given the rights now. They are now reneging on their commitment, saying that I must go to EROS. Who are EROS? I have nothing to do with them," Sampath Kumar said emotionally.
The price of the rights was first fixed by one Srinivas, Pawan's personal manager. "I told him that even 'Gabbar Singh' and 'Attarintiki Daredi' had collected Rs. 3.5 Cr and thereabouts in the area (Krishna territory). Since the rate being quoted was upwards of that amount, I asked for recovery clause to be included. To this, he told me that the film ('Sardaar Gabbar Singh') came out really well and I shouldn't worry. He also said that films with Sai Dharam Tej and Ram Charan would follow. But now they are not even lifting my phone calls. When I call from another number, they are saying that they are not bound to sell 'Katamarayudu' to me. Srinivas (Pawan's manager) even warned me that if I persist, a defamation suit will be filed against me," Sampath said.
"It was he (Srinivas) who called me to Sharrath Marar garu's (producer of 'SGS' and 'Katamarayudu') office and made me sign the agreement. I don't know English language and so I am not aware of the clauses of the agreement. I totally acted on faith because Srinivas garu is Pawan Kalyan garu's manager," he elaborates.
Sampath has tried to meet Powerstar directly but to no avail. "I urge the media to take this issue to Kalyan garu's notice. He is a leader of the people and he should know what is happening behind his back," he said.
"Earlier in the day, the distributor for Nizam territory, who bought 'SGS' for Rs. 8 Cr was also told that 'Katamarayudu' rights won't be given," Sampath revealed.
