Bob Iger didn't seem too happy to comment on Gina Carano's lawsuit.
After feeling discriminated against and wrongfully fired, the ex-Mandalorian star is suing the Disney and Lucasfilm franchises. She wants herself reinstated for future Star Wars projects, as her lawsuit alleges. According to the reports, Elon Musk is financing the suit through X. When CNBC asked Iger whether he had any thoughts concerning Musk's involvement in financing the suit, Iger replied shortly, saying that it was not his concern.
Carano's legal action follows social media posts that got her fired earlier this year over social media posts expressing right-wing views. Carano claimed she was targeted and fired due to her political beliefs. Iger made his comments in a question-and-answer session before The Walt Disney Company's quarterly earnings call with investors.
Musk, who is known to be unrestrained with his attitude, went on to blast Disney and rally behind Carano. He condemned what he thought was Disney's hypocrisy in light of its diversity and inclusion policies.
Last year, Musk pledged financial assistance to the people alleging discrimination on his platform, X, with no cap on finances as well as a promise to focus on company boards if need be.
Carano's lawsuit raises allegations of harassment and defamation against Disney and Lucasfilm. She alleges that the companies treated her differently because of her conservative views, in contrast to identical conduct by her male colleagues. The lawsuit lists examples of Carano being allegedly picked on for her views, including a meeting with Lucasfilm executives and LGBTQ+ employees to which she was invited, but she said no, and she was then fired.
The legal fight spotlights larger debates in the entertainment industry about free expression, the liability of corporations, and workplace discrimination.
