Talkative and intelligent director in Kannada filmdom Guruprasad in his third film (previous two Mata and Eddelu Manjunatha) consuming more time - 3 years plus offers nothing startling in contents but wins with flying colors once again from his pet dialogues. The point of humanity winning over money is outdated. It is money comes and goes but morality comes and grows. This is the ancient theory the director Guruprasad emphasizes in his witty dialogues and funny situations filled `Directors Special'. As a director he falls down to the characters in the end also does not suit the title `Directors Special'. No doubt Guruprasad intelligence continues as he has done the film `Directors Special' with a minimum number of characters and shot in a few locations. Why did he take so much to time? The theory of director is to create relationship instead of developing. The protagonist Dhananjay sees the fatherly quality in a person at burial ground that is Panche Shastry (Rangayana Raghu). In the old age home he finds another lady and brings her as mother (Dr Vatsala Mohan) and a young girl (Sumithra Devi) in distress comes as sister. There is already one mentally challenged person (Ram) in the house. Orphan Dhananjay rename all the four he brings to the house. All the four are new in the house. Each one has his own tale. Surprisingly all are behind money. When Dhananjay comes with huge money of Rs.55 lakhs from a deal he has made in the land dispute, the situation takes a new turn. All the four forget the gratitude (the mentally challenged also recoup after seeing money) extended by Dhananjay and hatch plot to finish off to divide the money and go away. When the day and time is set in one dark night Dhananjay knows the ulterior motive of all four. He hands over the iron rod to the four to finish him off. It is cut at this point. The director of the film enters the scene. That is realization time of all the four characters. They decide not to kill the protagonist for the sake of money. Director Guruprasad demand them to do so. What happens next is as you expect. Rangayana Raghu is effortless in his role as `Panche Shastry' - why he follows Jaggesh in his style of dialogue delivery - Jaggesh was hero of director Guruprasad previous two films. Has the director compelled Rangayana Raghu to give the mood of Jaggesh film? In expressions and style of acting Rangayana Raghu deserves a few awards for this role. Dhananjay is having strong future in cinema. He has the sharpness and ability to deliver very near to perfection. Kannada cinema industry has got a good performer from this actor. He is in lengthy hair and beard. That could have been trimmed to show his smartness. Dr Vatsala Mohan has got a career best role. She was seen only in Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa films. Sumithra Devi youngster in the first appearance is impressive because of dialogues. She represents the present day teenage girls of ultramodern society. It is a well done work from technical team of Guruprasad. In his debut Mahendra Simha shows he is expert in lighting and angles. He is a very fine still photographer already. In the limited space and close up shots he has captured does not miss the expressions. Anoop Seelin is another brilliant technician of this `Directors Special'. Devare Agaadha Ninna Mahime..of top poet in Kannada literature BR Lakshman Rao is well rendered by Rajesh Krishnan. The song for Pooja Gandhi penned by Sharadha Sutha (director Guruprasad) is for the front benchers. The editing of this film is nothing special. Over all it is worth a dekko once! Score - 7.5/10
