Acclaimed director S.P. Jananthan (61) was found unconscious in his residential room on Thursday and was admitted to the ICU of Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. It has now been confirmed that he passed away at 10.07 am this morning due to a cardiac arrest without responding to the intensive care treatment after being declared brain dead earlier.

Jananathan made heads turn with his very first film 'Iyarkai' starring Arun Vijay and Shaam which won national awards and later followed it up with the critically acclaimed films 'E', 'Peraanmai' and 'Purampokku Enum Podhuvudamai'. He is known for his social consciousness and all his films have tackled relevant issues.

After a gap, Jananathan shot his new film 'Laabam' starring Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan and was involved in the editing. The teaser of the film released a few months back was well received. He was a bachelor and was staying in a room along with his assistant directors.

Vijay Sethupathi who was supposed to begin a new film directed by Ponram in Dindigul cancelled the shooting and rushed back to give all support to Jananathan for the past two days. It was said that he tried his best to revive him emotionally by calling his name hoping that he would wake up. Actors who worked with the most respected filmmaker and other celebrities and fans are taking to social media to post their tributes.

We at Indiaglitz extend our heartfelt condolences to Jananthan's friends, colleagues and family members for the irreparable loss.
