Acclaimed director S.P. Jananathan admitted to ICU in very critical condition

Acclaimed director S.P. Jananthan was admitted to the ICU at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai after he was found unconscious in his room by one of his assistants around 4pm on Thursday. It is said that he was overseeing the editing of his upcoming movie 'Laabam' starring Vijay Sethupathi and had gone home for lunch and did not return to the editing studio.
According to hospital sources Jananathan is in very critical condition and is said to be brain dead and at the time of writing the relatives were waiting for a neurosurgeon to confirm further treatment.
Jananathan made heads turn with his very first film 'Iyarkai' starring Arun Vijay and Shaam which won national awards and later followed it up with the critically acclaimed films 'E', 'Peraanmai' and 'Purampokku Enum Podhuvudamai'. He is known for his social consciousness and all his films have tackled relevant issues.
After a gap, Jananathan shot his new film 'Laabam' starring Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan and was involved in the editing. The teaser of the film released a few months back was well received. He is a bachelor and was staying in a room along with his assistant directors.
