Rajini's director gets sensational orders from court

Director Pa. Ranjith is one of the few lucky directors to have got the chance to work with Superstar Rajinikanth so early in his career and that too two back to back films 'Kabali' and 'Kaala'. Apart from being a socially conscious filmmaker, he is also a social activist who is known to speak his heart, especially for Dalit causes.

Pa. Ranjith courted trouble a few weeks back by speaking about the exploitation of women institutionalised under the devadasi system during the rule of Raja Raja Chozha, the 10th-century Chozha king. An arrest warrant was issued and Ranjith applied for an anticipatory bail in the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court. The case came up for hearing and the government lawyer pleaded that bail should not be granted. Ranjith argued that he only quoted historical fact and did not hurt the sentiments of any section of the society and also added that his views are being misconstrued by elements on social media.

The judge advised Ranjith to avoid speaking about a revered ancient ruler when there are so many issues to be addressed and granted bail with the condition that he should stay in the area and sign the police register at Thirupananthal for the next three days.
