Oscar award winning illustrator, animator and film director Gene Deitch, passed away. He was 95. Czech publisher, Petr Himmel informed media about Deitch's death in his apartment in Prague’s Little Quarter neighborhood.
In 1960, the short film “Munro” directed by Gene Deitch won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, and he was also nominated twice in 1964 for “Here’s Nudnik” and “How to Avoid Friendship" in the same category.
Gene Deitch who is also popular for his “Tom Terrific” series, has also directed 13 episodes of the most popular cartoon show “Tom and Jerry” also few episodes of “Popeye the Sailor” series.
