Severe rainstorms have turned Nevada's Burning Man festival into a muddy quagmire, causing challenges for attendees. DJ Diplo and comedian Chris Rock shared their daring escape from the festival grounds in a video. The mud made it impossible for vehicles to enter or exit, prompting the duo to embark on a five-mile trek until a kind-hearted fan gave them a lift.
Diplo shared their hitchhiking adventure on Instagram, emphasizing the urgency due to his show in Washington, D.C., that night. He expressed gratitude to the driver who unwittingly bought a truck suitable for their escape.
The stormy weather resulted in floods in the Nevada desert, leading the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a tragic incident during the event, though details are scarce.
Despite the challenges, festival organizers assured attendees they were prepared for such situations. They advised seeking shelter, conserving supplies, and waiting for the weather to improve. Burning Man, known for its vibrant counter-culture celebration, attracts tens of thousands of participants annually.
Organizers stressed their commitment to safety, stating, "Burning Man Project has been facilitating Black Rock City and Burning Man for over 30 years. We have done table-top drills for events like this. We are engaged full-time on all aspects of safety and looking ahead to our Exodus as our next priority."
