It is stated in the corridors of power in the State Secretariat that Dinakaran, who has become a thorn in the flesh` as far as the ruling AIADMK in the State is concerned, might soon be disqualified as an MLA from R.K. Nagar in Chennai where polling was held last Friday.
Dinakarans` victory humiliating the ruling AIADMK as well as the opposition DMK and the BJP hasn`t gone down well with State BJP leaders as well as the party`s Central office-bearers. The AIADMK feels insulted while the DMK has no words to explain its defeat at the hands of an independent. It is now reported that a process has been kick-started` which would see the end` of Dinakaran sooner than later.
Verdict in a couple of FERA violation cases against Dinakaran are about to be pronounced. Those in the powers of corridor at the Centre have been noting down each and every movement/utterance of Dinakaran and his supporters. Already, a case has been filed against his close aide Vetrivel for leaking the Jaya treatment video` a day before the R.K. Nagar by-poll which put Dinakaran in an advantageous position.
Vetrivel`s anticipatory bail plea hasn`t been acted upon yet by the High Court of Madras. Dinakaran is to pay Rs.28 crores as penalty for paying Rs.72 crors as fixed deposit amount to Barclay Banks` London branch way back in 1996, thus clearly violating FERA norms. The original penalty was Rs.32 crores but was later reduced to Rs.28 crores. Dinakaran has been dilly-dallying on the issue for a long time.
As and when he pays the amount, it would be tantamount to him agreeing that he had committed FERA violation and as such, he can`t continue to hold the post of MLA!
