Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials have stated that nothing 'objectionable' was recovered from this morning’s raids conducted at the premises of Karthi (son of former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram) in New Delhi.
It was accused by ED that in the year 2009, Chidambaram had (during his tenure as Union Finance Minister in the erstwhile Congress-led UPA regime’s reign at the Centre) manipulated his position of strength as Union Minister to allow INX Media receive foreign investments to the tune of several crores.
Raids by income-tax personnel commenced at Chidambaram’s Nungambakkam residence in Chennai as early as at 07:25 this morning. Neither Chidambaram nor his advocate-wife Nalini was at the residence at the time of raid. Chidambaram's daughter-in-law Srinidhi was alone at the residence even as simultaneous raids were conducted at Karthi’s New Delhi residence too.
The raids concluded at 10:30 a.m. amid speculation that it could have been connected with the INX Media case. In the meantime, ED officials have made it absolutely clear that they didn’t recover any ‘incriminating’ documents during the raids conducted at Karthi’s New Delhi residence.
