Los Angeles and Miami are linked to the person who told the source that the federal agents were going to raid Sean Combs' homes on Monday morning.
The raid was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, which declined to provide any additional information when contacted by The AP, including whether Combs was a target or what type of charges. This year, Combs, also known as Puff Daddy or Diddy, has faced numerous civil lawsuits for sexual assault and sex trafficking.
Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York and agents from the Department of Homeland Security led the criminal inquiry. Nicholas Biase, a spokesman for the Southern District, declined to comment. Homeland Security said agents from New York had âexecuted law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation, with assistance from HSI Los Angeles, HSI Miami, and local law enforcement partners.â Combs has reportedly linked the home in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles to him. Public records show that the home is owned by a company spearheaded by Combs.
The raids are a high-profile development for Combs' career. A 54-year-old, he helped centralize the rise of hip-hop into international prominence as a producer, label executive, and rapperâbut for long, he's a man facing an accusation of violent crime.
Combs denies the allegations. Last December, he deflected a rape lawsuit. Again, last month, after another suit, his lawyer referred to the accuser as a liar. Federal and local law enforcement visited the Star Island home in Miami Beach today. Not given to attracting much attention, police blocked off a number of streets at the Holmby Hills location in Los Angeles while curious onlookers milled about.
